Spain PM makes gaffe in train condolence text

MADRID (AP) The Spanish prime minister's office admits it made an embarrassing mistake when it sent out a condolence message to the victims of a train derailment that killed 80 in Spain by including a sentence from an earlier statement expressing regret over deaths in a Chinese earthquake.

A spokesman for Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy's office says the inclusion of a last paragraph that extends sympathy over deaths in Gansu, China was "an error" - but he could not explain how it had occurred. The sentence appeared in a statement sent Monday to the Chinese people.

The spokesman, who requested anonymity in line with government policy, said the paragraph was promptly removed from the statement, which was sent out late Wednesday.
